A Small Act of Compassion That Became a Community Story
In business, success is often measured by numbers, projects completed, or goals achieved. Yet some of the moments that leave the greatest impact have nothing to do with business at all.
Recently, Jared Riecke and Executive Comptroller Paige were traveling to a business meeting in Covington when they heard faint cries coming from a wooded area near a job site. Concerned that an animal might be in distress, they stopped to investigate.
What they discovered were three tiny abandoned kittens struggling to survive on their own.
Rather than continuing on to their meeting, they chose to take action.
The kittens were carefully rescued and transported for veterinary care, where they received the attention and treatment they needed. Thanks to the efforts of local animal advocates and veterinary professionals, all three kittens have since found loving forever homes.
While the rescue itself may have seemed like a small act, it reflects a much larger principle: communities are strengthened when people take responsibility for helping those who cannot help themselves.
Leadership Beyond Business
For Jared, community involvement has never been limited to boardrooms, construction projects, or banking. Strong communities are built through everyday actions, whether supporting local organizations, helping neighbors, investing in economic growth, or simply stopping to help when an unexpected need arises.
Many of the values that guide successful businesses, including responsibility, compassion, integrity, and stewardship, are the same values that shape stronger communities.
The rescue story was later shared by Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation as part of their efforts to highlight community members who make a positive difference in the lives of animals and local residents alike.
Their recognition served as a reminder that acts of kindness often create a ripple effect far beyond the moment itself.
Investing in Community
Throughout his career, Jared has believed that businesses have a responsibility to contribute positively to the communities they serve. Whether through community partnerships, charitable involvement, local sponsorships, or simple acts of compassion, investing in people and communities remains a priority.
This story is not remarkable because someone stopped to help three kittens. It is remarkable because it demonstrates how small decisions can reflect larger values.
Sometimes leadership is not found in a meeting, a project, or a title.
Sometimes it begins with hearing a cry for help and choosing to stop.
Community Recognition
The rescue was highlighted by Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation in recognition of the compassion shown by Jared, Paige, and their organizations. Their posts emphasized the importance of community involvement, animal welfare, and the positive impact individuals can have when they choose to take action.
We are grateful to Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation for sharing the story and for the work they continue to do on behalf of animals throughout our community.
